Daniel Haddad, M.D.
Dr. Haddad, a native New Yorker, received his medical degree from New York Medical College in 1983. Upon completion of his specialty training at Wayne State University’s Kresge Eye Institute and ophthalmology board certification, he decided to stay in the area and raise his family of four in Metro-Detroit, where he founded the Laser Eye Institute in 1987. His vision for the Laser Eye Institute is to not only to improve the life and vision of each patient, but also an unwavering commitment to the advancement of laser technology and the LASIK procedure for all surgeons.
His noteworthy contributions to the field include developing the Custom RK procedure in the 1990s, improving the tracking technology used in today’s lasers, and providing ongoing ophthalmology education to his peers as a lecturing member of ASCRS (American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery). He is also a member and lecturer at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the Aspen Corneal Society, and the World Excimer Laser Forum.
Dr. Haddad was first published in the 1990s for developing the Custom RK procedure, a form of vision correction prior to LASIK. His study on the decentration of LASIK treatments was awarded Best Study of 2002 and led him to develop a patent to more accurately center LASIK treatments. His leadership roles have included: clinical instructor at Wayne State University and President of the Michigan Keratorefractive Society. Most recently, he was honored with a distinguished alumni award (Kresge Eye Institute) for his contributions to the field.
When he is not working with patients or on medical research, Dr. Haddad enjoys listening to vinyl records, skiing, and gardening.
Jeffrey Rautio, O.D.
Dr. Rautio, a Michigan native, obtained his Doctor of Optometry from Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University and has been in private practice for over thirty years.
During his three-decade long career he has specialized in dry eye, diabetic and glaucoma management, as well as pre-operative and post-operative care for refractive and cataract surgical patients. Notably he spent 9 years on the Detroit Lions sideline serving as the team’s Optometrist.
At Laser Eye Institute, Dr. Rautio works alongside Dr. Haddad delivering freedom from glasses and contacts with laser vision correction. Additionally, he handles patients’ primary and routine eye care needs. This team approach ensures every measurement is checked twice ensuring the safety and accuracy of procedure at Laser Eye Institute.
An avid golfer, Dr. Rautio founded an Internet-based golf tee-time booking service called WorldWide TeeTime and was elected to the Board of Directors at Pro Golf of America.View an interview with Dr. Rautio on our blog
