SMILE

Introducing SMILE A kinder, gentler laser vision correction.

What is SMILE?

SMILE is the latest in laser vision correction for myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism, providing LASIK-like outcomes in a less-invasive procedure. A laser is used to create a thin contact-lens-shape layer just beneath the surface of the eye and then a small opening through which that layer is removed, correcting your vision. Worldwide, over 1,500,000 SMILE procedures have been performed by more than 1,000 surgeons. In fact, SMILE is the fastest growing laser vision correction surgery in the world.

Fast

The entire treatment is applied in under 30 seconds and most patients return to work the next day.

Safe

The entire treatment takes place just under the surface of the eye making treatment safer, lessens the risk of a complication, and promotes faster healing.

Proven

With over 1.5 million SMILE procedures performed worldwide; SMILE is quickly becoming the new standard in laser vision correction.

What makes SMILE different from LASIK?

This is one of the most common questions we hear, and many patients want to know which procedure
is better. The fact is that both LASIK and SMILE are proven, consistent procedures, and most patients
will be very happy with either procedure. Generally speaking, SMILE is the gentler laser vision correction
option and has a smaller risk of post-surgical dry eye. LASIK offers an ever-so-slightly quicker post-procedure
visual recovery time. Based on the anatomy of your eye and lifestyle goals, Dr. Haddad can
recommend the right procedure for you.

Step-By-Step

What to expect during SMILE treatment?

SMILE is a quick, painless, 3-step process completed entirely with the VisuMax laser.

image

Eye Preparation

Using the VisuMax laser, a thin disk-like sliver, called a lenticule, is created just below the surface of the eye. This process takes just under 30 seconds and is completely painless.

image

Removal

Laser treatment using the VisuMax is now complete. The surgeon removes the small disk-shaped lenticule that was created by the laser. This method minimizes disruption to the eye and is also completely painless.

Vision Corrected

The removal of the disk-shaped lenticule microscopically changes the shape of the eye. This results in corrected vision. Because there has been minimal disruption to the eye patients can return to all activity the next day without any restrictions.
