3 Reasons Why Monovision Is The Real Deal

1. Who Needs Monovision?

Let me paint you a picture. You’re not in your 20s anymore, but you’re certainly not old. In fact, you’re the farthest thing from it. But your eyes don’t feel quite as young as they used to, either. You already wear contacts (or glasses), and you don’t like them. It seems like maybe you have to hold your phone a little further away for the text messages to be readable, or maybe you have to wear reading glasses or bifocals. You might be dealing with presbyopia, the normal loss of focusing ability on near objects as you age. In our experience, Monovision works best for patients who have a difference in their ability to see near and far.

2. How Does Monovision Work?

Monovision works by having your eyes set to different prescriptions—one eye set for near vision, and the other set for distance. This allows you to have seamless, uninterrupted vision as you move about your day. Going from working on the computer to looking across the room at a clock wouldn’t involve changing glasses. Driving and checking your phone could be done without bifocals, or expensive multifocal contact lenses. Most of your day to day tasks can be accomplished seamlessly when your eyes no longer have to work as hard to keep up!

3. Is Monovision Compatible with LASIK?

Monovision LASIK is a great option for patients who need more than just distance correction, and it’s a concept that’s been around for quite some time. It’s the best of both worlds, and while it may not be a perfect fit for everyone, Monovision is a great option for many patients who would otherwise need two pairs of glasses. However, the idea that one of your eyes is specialized for near vision, and the other for distance, might make you a little hesitant to jump head first into this exciting treatment. That’s why we offer a Monovision simulation for patients considering this route. We recommend a two week trial to make sure your brain is able to adjust to the way your eyes adapt to the new way of seeing. Most patients love it!
