Introducing SMILE a kinder, gentler laser vision correction.
What is SMILE?
SMILE is the latest in laser vision correction for myopia (nearsightedness) with or without astigmatism, providing LASIK-like outcomes in a minimally invasive procedure. A laser is used to create a thin contact-lens-shape layer just beneath the surface of the eye and then a small opening through which that layer is removed, correcting your vision. Worldwide, over 6,000,000 SMILE procedures have been performed by more than 2,500 surgeons. In fact, SMILE is the fastest growing laser vision correction surgery in the world.
Fast
The entire treatment is applied in under 30 seconds and most patients return to work the next day.
Safe
The entire treatment takes place just under the surface of the eye making treatment safer, lessens the risk of a complication, and promotes faster healing.
Proven
With over 6 million SMILE procedures performed worldwide; SMILE is quickly becoming the new standard in laser vision correction.
What to expect during SMILE treatment?
SMILE is a quick, painless, 3-step process.
Eye Preparation
Using the VisuMax laser, a thin contact lens shaped layer, called a lenticule, is created just below the surface of the eye. This process takes just under 30 seconds and is completely painless.
Treatment
The surgeon removes the small contact lens shaped lenticule that was created by the VisuMax laser. This method minimizes disruption to the eye and is also completely painless.
Vision Corrected
Once treatment is complete patients typically notice immediate improvement in their vision and are able to resume most activities the next day, without restrictions, including wearing makeup and driving.

This is one of the most common questions we hear, and many patients want to know which procedure is better. Both LASIK and SMILE deliver excellent outcomes and are proven procedures.
Why SMILE?
Thin corneas: Unlike LASIK, SMILE does not involve a flap, making it the ideal treatment for patients with thin corneas.
High prescriptions: Patients with high prescriptions, who may not have been a candidate for LASIK may be a great candidate for SMILE.
Astigmatism: Those that may not have qualified for LASIK in the past due to their astigmatism may now benefit from SMILE.
Recovery: SMILE patients recover faster with almost no restrictions the day after treatment.
