Daniel Haddad, M.D.
Considered an expert in his field by both patients and colleagues, Dr. Daniel Haddad has devoted nearly three decades of his practice to excellence in vision correction.
Dr. Haddad founded his practice, the Laser Eye Institute, in November of 1987. In the early 1990's, Dr. Haddad set the standard for making RK surgery (an eairlier form of vision correction) safer and more predictable with Custom RK. Recently, his work on laser eye tracking systems has won him national recognition as a leader in the field of vision correction.
Over the years, Dr. Haddad has seen his Laser Eye Institute expand to multiple locations, broadening his services to a wide array of patients' vision correction needs. The Laser Eye Institute specializes in customizing a vision correction treatment for each patient with a focus on LASIK, LASEK, Multi-Focal IOL, ICL, and Cataract Surgery . A high attention to detail has created a history of highly successful vision correction.
With the onset of LASIK in the late 1990's, Dr. Haddad's focus shifted to improving laser vision correction with the goals of making the procedure more safe and accurate. Since then, Dr. Haddad has lectured nationally for his work on the VISX Tracker (the part of the laser that tracks your eye during LASIK) improving the safety of LASIK, not only at the Laser Eye Institute, but for all surgeons.
As we continued to grow, in 2009 we welcomed Dr. Leland to our Troy, Michigan location. Dr. Leland brings over an additional 20 years of experience to the Laser Eye Institute, with a focus on managing LASIK patients' post operative care.
More recently, in 2010 Dr. Haddad shifted his focus to the Iris Registration module (during LASIK it aligns the laser treatment). He theorized that an error in the VISX camera centration algorithm was improperly aligning CustomVue treatments and developed a method to compensate for this inaccurate centration shift. Abbot, the manufacturer of the VISX laser, acknowledged this error in a notice to all VISX Surgeons in 2011. Since then, Dr. Haddad has continued to present his course and educate fellow Surgeons on how to compensate for errors in pupil centroid shift.
Throughout the course of this study he found multiple ways to improve the alignment method of the VISX laser and was recently awarded patents on the technology. He used this study to present a course: "Improving Results With CustomVue LASIK", and has presented his course both stateside and internationally (notably: Excimer Laser Forum; Paris, France. American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons; San Diego, CA. American Academy of Ophthalmology; Boston, MA).
Dr. Haddad's vision for the Laser Eye Institute is to not only improve the life and vision of each patient, but also to have a constant commitment to the advancement of laser technology and the LASIK procedure for all surgeons.
Barnet Leland, O.D.
Dr. Leland studied at Michigan State University before going on to graduate from the Illinois College of Optometry. He has furthered his education with extensive and ongoing post graduate training and practices full-scope eye care with experience in the medical treatment and surgical management of eye diseases. Dr. Leland was in private practice at Fairfield Eye Care in Sterling Heights prior to joining Metro Vision.
Dr. Leland is the Director of Primary Eye Care at the Laser Eye Institute. In addition, Dr. Leland assists in the post-operative care of surgical patients
