Daniel Haddad, M.D.
Dr. Haddad, a New York native, received his medical degree from New York
Medical College in 1983. Upon completion of his specialty training at Wayne State University’s Kresge Eye Institute
and ophthalmology board certification, he decided to stay and raise his family of four in
the Metro-Detroit area and founded the Laser Eye Institute in 1987. His vision for the Laser Eye Institute is to not only improve the life and vision of each patient,
but also a constant commitment to the advancement of laser technology and the LASIK procedure for all surgeons.
His noteworthy contributions to the field include developing the Custom RK procedure in the 1990s, improving the tracking technology
used in today's lasers, and providing ongoing ophthalmology education to his peers as a lecturing member of
ASCRS (American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery). He is also a member and lecturer at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the International Society of
Refractive Surgery, the Aspen Corneal Society, and the World Excimer Laser Forum.
Dr. Haddad was first published in the 1990s for developing the Custom RK procedure, a form of vision correction prior to LASIK.
His study on the decentration of LASIK treatments was awarded Best Study of 2002, and led him to develop a patent to more
accurately center LASIK treatments. His leadership roles included: clinical instructor at Wayne State University and President of the Michigan
Keratorefractive Society. Most recently, he was honored with a distinguished alumni award (Kresge Eye Institute) for his contributions to the field.
When he is not working with patients or on medical research, Dr. Haddad enjoys listening to vinyl records, skiing, and gardening.
