Frequently Asked Questions

What is a LASIK?

LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis and is done using an excimer laser. LASIK can greatly improve the patients vision and reduce or eliminate the needs for corrective glasses or contacts.

Is LASIK covered by insurance?

Generally speaking, no. Most insurance companies treat LASIK as an elective procedure and do not cover. Some specific insurance plans do however cover either a portion or all of the fee. Contact our office, or your insurance carrier to find out if it is a covered benefit.

How long does treatment take?

The treatment itself only takes a few minutes, however on the day of your treatment you can expect to be at our office approximately 2 hours.

Can I drive myself after the procedure?

No, most patients can see fine after the procedure. We do however, give our patients a valium on the day of the procedure to relax because of the valium they must have someone else drive them home. We see our patients the next day for a quick visit and most patients are able to drive themselves to this visit the next day.

How long does recovery take?

Recovery is very quick and most patients are able to resume normal activities the day after the procedure. We recommended that you refrain from physical activities such as contact sports, steam-rooms, and saunas for 3 months until the flap has completely healed to minimize the risk of infection.

Can i use a flex-spend on LASIK

Absolutely, most patients use their flex-spend accounts to set aside tax-free dollars to pay for LASIK. This allows patients to save almost 30% on the cost of LASIK!
